MCF Helps Battle Malaria
Malaria is the fastest and number one killer disease in Africa. It has sent many children into their graves. Together we could fight to eradicate the deadly disease by faith and love to save the poor children around the world who are being killed by malaria.
WHAT IS MALARIA?
Many people have asked the above question. “Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite transmitted from person to person by nocturnal anopheles mosquitoes. It causes symptoms such as a flu-like fever and if not treated can lead to a coma and death. Malaria brings poverty and slows economic growth of individuals and nations. Malaria costs the continent of Africa approximately $12 billion in production lost and consumes 40% of African health expenditure.
Worldwide, in just one year (2006) 350 to 500 million people were infected with malaria and up to one million died. Malaria is one of the greatest killers of children in the world, particularly those under five, as well as pregnant women and 90% of malaria deaths occur in Africa, where it kills a child every 30 seconds.” There are different ways of preventing malaria. And one of these ways is by sleeping in a bed net. A bed net prevents and protects people from the infections of mosquito bites. The bed net stops malaria from spreading and saves many lives. This is the reason why Manchester Christian Fellowship is voluntarily involved in this campaign. Faiths Act Together Tony Blair Faith Foundation wants to eradicate malaria from the continent of Africa. He is providing bed nets to poor children in Africa. In his recent speech the Former Prime Minister Tony Blair said, “World leaders must do God.” So as people of faith, if we donate in supporting this great vision, we are doing the things that God wants all of us to do to help our neighbours. What could we do together as people of faith? Manchester a city of education, banking, business, culture and religion, a city of passion and sociable, Manchester a shelter of God’s treasures, a city where people put others first and these are God’s given gifts to bless a nation. We all have the obligation and mandate to respond to the needs of the poor by pulling our resources together, whether great or small to demonstrate our commitment as faith community. Every religion reflects upon the duty of care for the poor. As people of faith, let us unit in one purpose, let us give, let us save lives, let us bring hope to the poor children in Africa and other places in the world. As we give, as we save, as we bring hope we do God.
Thank you. God bless Manchester and God bless United Kingdom.
